We are accustomed to rinsing off our dishes and putting them in the dishwasher, garbage disposals are a wondrous invention but even though they are turning on does not mean they do not need replaced.

A leaking fixture that needs to be shut down until a repair can be made could put you on edge, if you have old emergency shut off valves that require tools (because they are stuck open) or turns and turns and never seems to truly stop the flow or starts dripping or spraying at you, let's find something reliable for your emergency use.
The multiple turn valves, gate valves and saddle valves are a thing of the past for obvious reasons, some builders use them to put more money in their pockets.
You should have something reliable that shuts off easily when you need it to and without tools or frustration, ball valves are the answer, be it for your house main, sprinkler shut off, toilets, lavs, sinks, outdoor faucets, humidifier and evaporative cooler isolations, in some cases they can be added to accessible areas for shower or tub valves.
If your main water shut off valve is in a crawlspace let's route that up into an inconspicuous spot on the main floor so you do not have to go crawling.
